Women Going Through Divorce/Break-Ups

couples counseling Virginia BeachContemplating ending a romantic relationship, or going through the end of one can be incredibly difficult; this is true whether or not you are the one who initiated the ending. Both roles are very hard emotionally and often involve changes in living situations and other logistics. Many people are filled with self-doubt, anxiety, and sometimes depression during these experiences. I help women to navigate these times through a perspective that focuses on empowerment and growth.

What we focus on will be customized to your individual needs, but some of the things we might do include:

  • If you are still contemplating whether to stay in or end the relationship: work to better understand your mixed emotions; psychoeducation on communication and healthy relationship dynamics; book recommendations that are helpful in making this difficult decision
  • If you have recently started going through the end of a relationship and are struggling to cope: work on strategies related to making sure you are sleeping and eating; psychoeducation on dealing with intrusive thoughts or rumination; working on building new routines as a single person
  • Better understanding the patterns that took place in the relationship  and the impact it may have had on you
  • Clarifying your needs and wants for future relationships
  • Learning to be happy and fulfilled as a single person
  • Exploring how your childhood and previous relationship experiences have shaped how you tend to respond to romantic partners
